OMG, friends, how did I forget to tell you? I have an article in the current issue of Vogue Patterns!
As you can see up top, it's about treadle sewing machines (the machine of our post-Peak Oil future!), but please don't let that discourage you from picking up a copy (April/May 2012). However, one of you lucky readers won't have to do that because --
I'm giving away one copy FREE!
I'm not just saying this because I'm in it: this is a superb sewing magazine full of great fashion and excellent sewing tips and techniques. There's even an article by Elaine May, aka The Selfish Seamstress. Of course, she only gets half the space I do but who's counting?
Followers and lurkers across the globe are eligible for the giveaway, and all you have to do to qualify is say you're interested -- how's that for easy? You have the entire weekend to enter and I'll announce the winner on Monday.
Of course, if you don't win -- and some of you won't -- you might consider a subscription to Vogue Patterns; you can find the info you need about that here.
In other news, yesterday in the mail I received the highly coveted (or not) Butterick 5896, which I purchased only days ago on eBay in something of a post-Oscar-gown peplum panic. Have the last twenty-five years been kind to this 1987 pattern? Michael finds it hideous (It's so Suzanne Sugarbaker, he said); I see possibilities, but then I'm a sucker for a boned bodice and lace overlay.
Not sure about the shape of that peplum however...
Readers, I can't talk about peplums any more this week. Let's talk photography! As you know I have a brand new-to-me, used camera, a Canon Digital Rebel XT, and I really love it. This is my first DSLR (That's short for digital single lens reflex -- or is it reflux?) camera and it's extremely versatile: you can change the lenses and everything! Here are a few early pics I've taken and MPB completists can view even more pics here.
Sadly, one of the disadvantages of a sharp lens is that it shows up those facial flaws you're used to seeing slightly blurry. It may be time for some Vaseline -- or a veil.
Readers, that's all for today. Please don't forget to throw your hat in the ring for the Vogue Patterns magazine.
Have a great day, everybody!
