SIERRA LEONE
The corpse of a 67 year old woman in Tonko Lunba chiefdom, Kambia has tested positive for Ebola in a preliminary test. A confirmatory test will be used to rule out laboratory error. Since there had not been any Ebola case in that district for 50 days.
This is a set back for Sierra Leone which had begun their 42 day countdown to becoming Ebola free after the last case tested negative on August 24th.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone is to begin Ebola Ring Vaccine Trial following the preliminary positive result of a corpse in Kambia district. The woman's contacts will be offered VSV-EBOV Ebola vaccine. World Health Organisation, (WHO) has announced that teams trained in the vaccine trial protocol have been sent to the affected area while all contacts are being traced.
Sierra Leone's Ministry of Health has requested that the Ebola vaccine ring trial be expanded to be offered to its citizens after promising results were found in Guinea.
