NYC-based, Italian singer-songwriter
Harry Taylor aims to help listeners forget about their life -- likely appreciated during COVID-19 uncertainty and fights for racial equality -- and transport them into a carefree pop fantasy.
He does just that with his latest release, the somber, 80s-tinged "
No Longer Available".
While addressing the end of a summer fling involving a best friend, Taylor shares how many of us uncover the status of a relationship in today's age of social media. With just a 15-second glimpse at his former lover's Instagram stories, he breaks down, learning the other has already moved on.
"
No Longer Available" is ripped straight from the pages of the artist's own personal life, a quality he embeds into all of his releases. That sense of familiarity carries a heavy emotional weight for those who've found themselves in a similar predicament. By stalking a former flame on their social media accounts, looking through their followers and new pictures, we then must deal with the consequences of finding out the truth.
"
I guess we're nothing but two strangers, it's what I hate the most, I'm not good at goodbyes," Taylor sings, slowly coming to terms with his new relationship reality.
While the artist might accept the unraveling of his summer love, it does not mean he isn't taking the heartbreak hard. With a sense of anger and sadness, a Lana Del Rey reference thrown in for good measure, Taylor reminisces on the good times.
Besides the mixed emotions heard in the artist's fragile yet compelling vocal performance, "
No Longer Available" succeeds thanks to the throwback pop nature of its supporting production, courtesy of Zach Benson. Wrapped in delicate, tinkering beats to emphasize being trapped in one's own thoughts, the song is the perfect companion for someone crying themselves to sleep.
That's a good thing, right?!
